BIOFUELS -FUTRE OF ENERGY SOURCES
Hello Friends , I am Navnit Naman . Today i was just reading my IT Book when i came to know about a very new term called Blogging. Don't know why but this attracted me a lot . When i further studied i was just amazed to know that by using this i could share my thoughts to the entire world that has now remain in a nutshell(thanks to Internet). So i decided to write my own blog. so today i am here with my very first blog about my INSANE journey of Science Fair this year.
This all started when my school teacher asked me to take part in the annual science fair that starts from school level and ends at the national level science fair. So when i was sure to take part than i started preparations. The first thing was to search the theme for which i had to work. I was suggested to do on Bio fuels.
So , i started researching about biofuels on the Internet. we saw biofuels made from jotropha plants , corns , jojoba , sugarcane etc. but all those fuels have some problems attached to it . So we decided to go with algae for biofuels .
The best thing about algae is that
1. This has the maximum Oil content that makes it a great candidate for biofuls.
2. Algae reproduces very fast so it could just double itself in a day or two.
3. No need of land , algae can even grow in water bodies like sea and ocean.
But now a question arises that if biofuels from algae are so great than why we are not using it . The answer is quite simple ''COST'' . The cost of producing biofuels from algae is very high that is 6 - 7 dollars/litre.
Now that's where my project makes the gateway . The aim of my project is to reduce the cost of biofuels below 1 dollar so that it may compete with present day fossils.
Here we were working to build a Photobioreactor that could increase the rate of photosynthesis in algae my means of some specified physical condtions.
The best part of this photobioreactor is that is utilises CO2 for this purpose . and in commercial applications we could use CO2 that is left out by the industries . We had advance scrubbers and filters to remove any pollutant present in it and that we could utilise it to grow algae.
This will solve two of the biggest problem that are threatening the Humanity. and I am quite sure that is would change our destiny in terms of Energy Production .
I would write a seperate blog discussing the functioning of the Photobioreactor and its advantages.
